Friday, June 6 beginning at 8 p.m.

People often ask, “who is the mic open to?”

Acoustic Musicians
Poets
Spoken Word Performers
Writers or Readers of any sort
Stand-up Comedians

And just about anyone else who wants to participate. And no, it doesn’t have to be your own material. Covers are allowed :>

A few reminders:

1. We haven’t sidled up to anyone (yet), while they’re at the mic - as a reminder about respecting other performers by keeping as close as possible to the 3 poem/3 song, 10-12 minutes limit – but we may. If there is time, we’ll open it up at the end to see if anyone wishes to do another round. (Of course the MC can break this rule at any time).
2. Bring your own beverages; all we’re able to serve at this time is water. Coffee and Tea are available at Charisma Café.
3. Acoustic. Definition: non-electric instrument. We do, however, allow acoustic guitars to be plugged into our PA System. We ask that you do not bring additional amps and electric instruments.
4. There are chairs for about 40 in the garden. If you have a camp chair, please bring it, we’ve been known to exceed the number of available seats on occasion by 2-3x.
5. We appreciate those who participate just by attending. Cheer on the pros, and those who may be bravely trying it out for the first time, equally. Heckling and any disruption that disrespects a performer will not be tolerated.

New exhibition at ArtCenter Manatee’s ComCenter Gallery

June 2nd - July 11th 2008 opening reception June 6th, 5-7pm
New exhibition at ArtCenter Manatee’s ComCenter Gallery located at 9040 Town Center Parkway in Lakewood Ranch.

"Thinking Out Loud 2" an exhibit of paintings by Tyrell Waiters.

Nineteen year-old Tyrell Waiters, one year out of high school, recently held his first and very successful one man show, Thinking Out Loud. He is back with additional exciting work, ranging from soft still-lifes to the bold and funky. Tyrell’s images are taken from the people and places around him, including the often trouble-ridden streets where he was raised.
Tyrell made a statement even as a younger artist, winning several awards and earning the attention of area professionals, including Miki Boni of the Village of the Art’s Kaos Gallery, who became a mentor to him. He continues to mature as an artist, garnering repeated requests for exhibitions and commissioned work.
The public is invited to attend a wine and cheese reception on Friday, May 2nd 5-7pm where they will have the opportunity to meet the artist.
The exhibit is currently available for viewing free of charge during office hours Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.

Directions to the ComCenter: I-75 to University Blvd. (turn east). Take first left at light at Market Street (Publix Plaza). Immediate left on Exchange Way, right at stop sign. ComCenter is 1st building on the left (pink 2 story), gallery is on 1st floor.
